Title: Investigating the psychosocial empowerment interventions through multimedia education in burn patients
Abstract:
BACKGROUND
Patients with burns often encounter a lot of psychological problems that can affect all parts of their lives. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the psychosocial empowerment interventions through multimedia education in burn patients.
METHODS
This research is a randomized clinical trial study with a control group that was administered in the Shahid Motahari Hospital in Tehran,Iran. In 2016. To this end, 50 patients were randomly selected for the control group and 50 patients were selected for the intervention group. As the instruments of the current study, demographic characteristics questionnaire and the quality of life questionnaire (BSHS-B) was used. Patients in the control group received only usual care, but in the intervention group, they received usual care as well as the multimedia trainings. Then, the psychological dimensions in the patients were characterized both before the interventions and after three and six months of interventions. The results were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics in SPSS, version 21, software.
RESULTS
The findings indicated that before interventions, the mean of mental dimension in intervention and control group were 2.08 ± 0.59, 1.64 ± 0.47 respectively, which were statistically significant (p <0.001). Three and six months after the intervention, the mean and standard deviation of interventions of control groups were 3.37 ± 0.93, 2.24 ± 0.4, 4.11 ± 0.74, 2.75 ± 0.58 respectively, which were statistically significant (p <0.001).
CONCLUSION
The results illustrated that the multimedia intervention has been effective in empowering the psychology of burn patients. Accordingly, it was suggested that the medical staff apply this educational method to help these patients.
