Biography:
Valerie Lynn is a Postnatal Care Specialist in recovery from pregnancy, childbirth, miscarriage, and stillborn birth.
Valerie has been a significant force in introducing after-birth recovery practices from Malaysia, its traditions, techniques, and treatments to women globally. She experienced postpartum anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder after the birth of her son in 2007, for nine months. Valerie turned to the traditional Malaysian healthcare system to re-balance her hormones and heal herself naturally with feminine-focused body treatments, herbal products, and postnatal nourishment.
Valerie teaches the Multicultural Postpartum Recovery Practices Workshop at the Malaysian Consulate in New York, the Tourism Malaysia office in Los Angles, California, and worldwide.
In Southeast Asia, Valerie has held positions such as Executive Director of the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and Principal of VLM Consultancy Inc. In 2011, Valerie was the first foreigner to earn a Malay Postnatal Practices and Therapies certificate from a Malaysian university. She also earned an MS in Economic Development of Southeast Asia (2000) from the University of London, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), U.K.
Valerie serves in several organizations - the Advisory Board of the Postpartum Research Center of New York and the Maternal Mental Health Now, California policy committee. She is on the Board of Directors of the Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce. In Malaysia, she is part of the Board of Directors of the distinguished non-governmental organization, YASNITA, "Women's Pathway to Success," where she serves as an International Advisor on Postpartum Recovery Practices. In addition, she has been the International Country Coordinator of Malaysia for Postpartum Support International (PSI) since 2011.
Valerie regularly contributes to and is interviewed for articles, books, and educational material and participates in conferences and seminars. Valerie has lived abroad since 1994 in Japan, the U.K., Indonesia, Australia, and Malaysia. Currently, she resides in Laguna Beach, California, and travels to Malaysia, Australia, and Southeast Asia.
