Abstract
About this talk
Background: Clinical governance is structured framework to ensure standard quality of patient care which is transparent and accountable. Nurses as frontline providers establish perceptions regarding clinical governance climate that significantly influence their work effectiveness. To reinforce the professional role of nurses in health care systems the relationship between clinical governance climate and work effectiveness is essential to explore.
Methods: For present study quantitative correlational design, guided by Kanter’s theory of structural empowerment (2001), comprising 150 nursing officers selected by simple random sampling from a tertiary care hospital in Kashmir. Data were collected from October to November 2025, using scale for clinical governance climate developed by researcher and Conditions for Work Effectiveness Questionnaire (CWEQ-II) (cvi = 0.97–1; r = 0.85 and 0.89). The analysis of quantitative data included descriptive and inferential statistics using spss20. Open-ended responses from scale for clinical governance climate were categorized into 7 domains and analysed using descriptive statistics.
Results: Majority of nursing officers (68.18%) perceived moderate level of clinical governance climate. The barriers faced were staff shortage (89.4%), heavy workload (68.4%), and poor communication (43.4%). The suggestions included recruit more nursing staff (76.3%) regular in-service education (51.3%%), update policies (22.3%), and install health information systems (30.2%). Most (59.37%) nursing officers perceived moderate level of work effectiveness. A significantly moderate positive correlation was found between clinical governance climate and work effectiveness (r = 0.534, p < 0.01).
Conclusion: The findings indicated that positive clinical governance climate significantly increases nurse’s work effectiveness. To enhance the quality of patient care in hospitals and optimize nursing performance, it is imperative to implement the principles of clinical governance in a systemic and systematic approach.
