Outpatient care, usually referred to as ambulatory care, is medical care provided on an outpatient basis. This therapy may use state-of-the-art medical procedures even when it is given outside of hospitals. Diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are two examples of illnesses referred to be ambulatory care sensitive conditions (ACSC), in which effective ambulatory care can completely eliminate or greatly reduce the need for hospital admission (or inpatient care). Numerous medical investigations, treatments, and preventative care can be performed on an outpatient basis, including several dental, dermatological, and minor surgical, as well as numerous diagnostic, procedures (e.g. blood tests, X-rays, endoscopy and biopsy procedures of superficial organs).
