Bringing new life into the world is one of the most significant tasks for labour and delivery (L&D) nurses in all of nursing. L&D nurses' main responsibility is to deliver healthy newborns and safely assist moms during the arduous process of delivery. They support expectant moms while they go through contractions and provide them encouragement and tips on how to handle the unpleasant procedure more easily. During the first several weeks following delivery, L&D nurses also look after and advise the mother. L&D nurses have a very significant and potentially very rewarding function.
- A labour and delivery nurse's responsibilities include the following:
Keep a constant eye on the mother's and the child's vital signs.
- Determine potential issues and offer support
- period shortenings
- Inform the multidisciplinary medical team about the mother's and the child's conditions.
- Launch IV lines.
- Helping medical professionals give drugs and epidurals
- Encourage labour as well as assist medical professionals during C-sections
- Assist mother and child with direct patient care.
- Throughout the many phases of childbirth, provide knowledge, advocacy, and care. Assist and mentor women.
- Support the mother's emotional, psychological, and physical needs.
