Educating people about health is the profession of health education. This field of work covers sexual and reproductive health education as well as environmental health, physical health, mental health, emotional health, social health, and intellectual health. Health education is the methodology through which people and communities are taught how to act in a way that promotes, maintains, or restores health. There are several ways to define health, and the same is true for health education. According to the Joint Committee on Health Education and Promotion Terminology of 2001, health education is "any combination of planned learning experiences based on sound theories that give individuals, groups, and communities the opportunity to acquire information and the skills needed to make quality health decisions for themselves and their communities."
