An essential component of hospitals, ambulatory care institutions, and other medical facilities is a post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), often known as post-anesthesia recovery (PAR), or simply Recovery. Transferring patients from the operating room suites to the recovery area requires general, regional, or local anaesthetic. Anesthesiologists, certified registered nurse anaesthetists, and other medical personnel often keep an eye on the patients. Providers follow a structured handoff process to the medical PACU team that includes information on the drugs administered in the operating room suites, the patient's hemodynamic status during the procedures, and what to anticipate for their recovery. Patients are watched for any potential issues after the first examination and stabilisation before being transported back to their hospital rooms.
